Sugar is just so sneaky!!! It loves to hide out in all kinds of favorite “treats”….BUT I have really good news! It’s totally possible to dial down and even kick out that super addictive, not so good for you so called friend and I have some HEALTHY IDEAS to help you get there!
Check out my Healthy Ideas for a “Sugar Swap”. That’s right, try these awesome spices in place of any kind of “modified or added” sugar (check out my article for the 411). Once you retrain those taste buds with these subtle, great for you spices your whole flavor profile changes….not to mention you are kicking your cravings to the curb.
GROUND CINNAMON
Use for: iced tea or smoothies Sweet benefits: Cinnamon keeps blood sugar stable and energy just where you need it.
UNSWEETENED COCONUT FLAKES
Use for: oatmeal, trail mix, energy balls, your favorite unsweetened yogurt. Sweet benefits: Coconut provides MCT’s, a type of fat that may help burn fat.
UNSWEETENED CACAO POWDER AND/OR CACAO NIBS
Use with: any kind of berries, in healthy smoothies (check out my smoothie recipes for ideas) Sweet benefits: Cacao boosts brain power and adds a healthy kick of magnesium.
GROUND VANILLA BEANS
Use for: coffee, pancakes, smoothies, unsweetened yogurt Sweet benefits: Vanilla bean’s aroma elevates feelings of joy and lowers inflammatory stress markers.
If you’re looking for something sweet, keep it SUPER SIMPLE and try this 1 ingredient Sorbet and don’t be afraid to try some of the swaps above to give it an extra healthy kick.
Additions: 1/2 Lemon or 1 tablespoon of filtered water to make it creamier! Healthy Gut additions: A small segment of fresh ginger (especially good with Mango and Peach)
Instructions
Let sit out for about 10 minutes to thaw slightly and then blend in a high powered blender. If you want it to be even creamier, continue to let it sit for another 10 minutes after blending.
Will keep in a frozen container in the freezer for up to 3 months.
