I love having the opportunity to talk about gut health and was excited to combine Gut Health & Fashion on a recent segment on the new syndicated Health & Wellness Show “Bloom“.
Here are some take-away’s from my appearance:
Digestive Health and Tight Pants most certainly go hand and hand…..or in this case cheek and cheek!
For too many years I wore pants that constricted my belly from fully expanding during digestion.
Raise your hand if you have ever needed to change your pants after a meal because they got so tight you literally couldn’t take it one more second
The worst is when you are at a restaurant or out with friends and can only think about getting home to immediately get out of those Ross Tight Pants (One of my very favorite @friends episodes?…..the struggle is real).
What is Tight Pants Syndrome:
Pressure on the stomach, known as intragastric pressure or intra-abdominal pressure, can trigger acid reflux — pushing stomach acid back up, causing heartburn.
Acid reflux is common, and not just for older adults. Studies have shown that up to 37 percent of the 20 to 30-year-old age group can even suffer with it. Even someone who isn’t prone to acid reflux can develop reflux if they wear a tight article of clothing over two weeks!
When you eat your belly naturally needs to expand during the digestion process. It’s a normal, natural part of life.
So how do we select pants that actually serve our bodies
verses causing distress?
Here is my simple (3) step process that has literally changed the type of pants I buy and my digestion!
1.) Select pants that don’t feel like you need pliers to pull on or off or buttons that require you to contort your body in strange directions to button.
2.) Do the Soft Belly Breathing test before you buy them. Put them on and do a Soft Belly breathe expanding your belly as you breathe in to see if they feel tight. If they do….they aren’t the ones!
3.) Choose a style pants that work best for your body type! Sometimes there is definitely more than one!
Here are some general rule Tips:
- If you are shorter/petite/curvy or pair shaped….a mid-to high waist pants may work better for you.
- If you have slimmer hips/are tall/slender a low rise option may work better for you.
Bottom line is to pick a pant that makes YOU feel the most confident and comfortable and allows your belly the expanding love that it needs and deserves.
